An 11,800 mm spherical cap for OCP

The first cap of this diameter made in Morocco. Friginox built it from welded segments in its Casablanca workshop, then loaded it onto a trailer bound for OCP’s site.

An out-of-scale piece

At 11.8 metres across, the cap is far larger than any head a press can form in one piece. It was cut into segments, each segment formed, then welded to the others to rebuild the spherical surface.

The dished-ends skill set

A piece like this draws on the same skills as our dished-ends department: layout, cold forming, fit-up and welding of the segments, and checking the geometry.

From the workshop to the client

Once assembled, the cap was lifted by crane in front of our offices, then loaded onto a trailer for OCP’s site.
